Odor Detection compliments all other scenting and tracking classes. As an add on course, it builds problem solving skills in the dog and handler team, while teaching the dog how to work scent plumes to the source of the odor, and the handler to read and reward the dog when he finds it!

This course is highly recommended for those who may prefer to work their dogs indoors or in controlled outdoor environments rather than deal with the unpredictability of many public spaces and parks. As with EAS, it benefits a wide variety of dogs and is especially helpful for dogs with reactivity and fear issues, because dogs work one at a time, always on leash, and in a safe environment.

The many benefits of odor search work make this the fastest growing sport in North America. The ease with which one can set up practices at home make it a useful activity for all, and one that can easily fit into anyone’s lifestyle.

LEVEL I teaches the dog the basics of the hunt and odor recognition. Students learn the basics of handling and scent theory. This is an appropriate class for students who wish to add to their dogs skill set beyond tracking, or perhaps find tracking too time consuming or physically laborious.

This course consists of 5 classes indoors on the North Shore. Classes are 1.5 hours in length. Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

LEVEL II generalizes the foundation of the hunt to other indoor locations. The focus is on handling and reading the dog. The dog is developing confidence and search skills. Odor recognition is developed into odor indication and teamwork is synchronizing between handler and dog.

This course consists of 5 classes on the North Shore. Classes are 1.5-2 hours in length. Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

LEVEL III generalizes the hunt to outdoor locations and vehicles. The team will experience greater scenting challenges in outdoor searches and learn how scent moves in different situations of wind and obstacles and scent corridors. Handling and teamwork is paramount as the dog learns to work the scent plumes to the source of the odor. This very exciting course consists of 5 classes on the North Shore.

Classes are 2 hours in length. Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

This course is an excellent alternative to tracking for high energy dogs, both small and large, whose handlers want to build skills, teamwork and communication with their dogs by engaging in exciting and focused “search and find” activities. EAS is a very beneficial and fun game for a wide variety of dogs: for high drive dogs with a work ethic who would benefit from a “job”; for dogs who love to run, hunt and air scent; for rescued dogs to build a trusting, bonded relationship with their new guardian. It is also effective as a therapy to build confidence in dogs who are insecure, fearful or distrustful of strangers.
This fun filled series follows a 3 level curriculum to an advanced level. It takes place outdoors in both forested and light urban areas.
Enthusiastic Teams will be invited to join our Volunteer Civilian Disaster Dog Training Team.

LEVEL I Teaching the foundation of air scenting while building the hunt. The beginnings of an indication of a find is developed and a secondary recall. This is a fun and social class for both handlers and dogs.

This course consists of 5 classes 1.5-2 hours in length. Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

LEVEL II continues with the basic principles of air scenting, and increasing the building of the hunt with more distance.

This fun-filled course consists of 5 classes 1.5-2 hours in length. Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

LEVEL III continues with generalizing the run outs to different locations, including semi urban locations. Dogs learn to find and indicate larger lost or discarded articles of clothing or accessories. Indications of finds and recalls are more reliable at this level. A very exciting conclusion to this series.

Space is reserved to 4 dogs per class.

SEARCH AND RESCUE COMBINATION IV maintains the skills learned in Wilderness and Urban Tracking, as well as the Search and Rescue Run Outs. Teams work on laying and running completely blind tracks and combining tracking with a final air scenting run out find!
